PROJECTS |
| |
The projects that BJWC supports are as varied as its members. There are several projects which we have supported for many years. Some projects are brand new and we are willing to add and change projects in response to the needs of our community.
The club is comprised of several different committees which are responsible for choosing their projects on an annual basis. Some of the committees are:
Project Shoes – is a signature project that was adopted by the General Federation of Woman's Clubs, as well as BJWC in 1993. We provide shoes and socks to needy children in the local school system and community. The recipients of the shoes are selected based upon recommendations from the social workers (and other school staff). Fundraising for this project includes proceeds from an annual nut sale as well as letter-writing campaigns to local hosiery mills and shoe manufacturers to become co-sponsors.
Please click on the Project Shoes Request form to complete your request.
Please allow us 5-7 days to purchase the shoes. Once the shoes have been purchased, arrangements for pick up that have been specified on the request form will be followed. It will be up to your agency staff to deliver the shoes to the child or the child's family. For the confidentiality of those involved, we do not deal directly with the families themselves.
We want to be certain that the recommendations made are for those children truly in need of our help. We will not require proof of the family's income or need. We will act solely upon your good judgment.

Arts & Education – This committee is responsible for the Arts Festival that you may have seen on display at the Burlington Square Mall. This festival is held in conjunction with the Burlington Woman's Club and is held in January. Local first place winners advance to compete at the District and State Arts Festivals where they can win monetary prizes.
International / Public Affairs – This committee is responsible for the promotion of projects that raise awareness to the membership regarding world issues. Projects sponsored by this committee include Operation Christmas Child and Operation Smile. Other projects include a Public Safety Fair, supporting Family Abuse Services and holding voter registration drives.
Conservation – This committee is responsible for projects that promote improving our environment and well as to educate members on conservation methods. A signature project of the committee is the Adopt-A-Highway program. BJWC has been responsible for St. Mark's Church Road since 1992. |

Homelife – Our Homelife committee is one of the busiest in the club! Last year, this committee alone donated over 475 service hours and $3200 to projects in Alamance County . Some of these included serving meals at Allied Churches Emergency Night Shelter, sponsoring dances at Thataways, supporting Meals on Wheels by buying an entire ‘flock' of ducks for the Rubber Duck Dash for the Cash, forming a team for Relay for Life in support of the American Cancer Society, sponsoring a Sweetheart Blood Drive for the American Red Cross and sponsoring multiple families for Christmas through the Alamance County Christmas Cheer office, just to name a few!
Hands down (and open!), the Burlington Junior Woman's Club is the service organization in Alamance County that gets the job done! |
